Missions
The Mission Team is comprised of individuals from youth to adult who have a heart for the Mission Field. Unlike other teams there is not a set monthly meeting, but the team meets when required. Their responsibilities include acquiring time, talents and treasures (fundraising dollars) in support of established mission organizations, as well as mission needs as they present themselves. In addition to serving on the actual team, volunteers are consistently needed to serve in various mission opportunities. Ongoing Mission opportunities include:
Rainbow Covenant Support – this is coordinated through the United Methodist Northern Illinois Conference and involves each church financially supporting a mission in each designated area. Each area is a color of the Rainbow and is associated with a region of the United States or country i.e., District, Northern Illinois Conference, United States, International etc. Missionary Support.
Support of Current Mission Organizations: Salvation Army Bell Ringing Salvation Army, WAVE (Working Against Violent Behaviors), and local food pantry food and clothing drives. Christmas support to local Head start and Children’s Home & Aid Society (food and gifts are donated to families) Meals on Wheels Support Hands on work at various organizations; Rockford Urban Ministries, Humboldt United Methodist Homeless Centers, local WAVE counseling center, Belvidere Boone County Food Pantry. Monthly soup kitchen is provided in cooperation with other community churches
Mission Team Sponsored:
Fundraisers promoted to raise monies for ongoing Mission needs including support of Rainbow Covenant: Annual Spaghetti Dinner/Comedy Night, Annual Silent/Live Auction, and Cookbook Sales Mission Trips – include two specific mission Trips, Youth Trip to Appalachia area and Family Mission Trip to Rose Bud Indian Reservation, South Dakota. Other Mission trips include an annual confirmation trip, trip to help victims of Katrina. Education: The Mission Team continually provides educational information supporting the Rainbow Covenant and other areas of mission.
Congregational and Community Support: financial support to those in need of gas, rent assistance, food assistance etc. Spiritual and emotional support is also provided where appropriate.
